Last updated: 23rd Janaury, 2026
  • These Terms of Use (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of Coterie’s websites, applications, and related services (the “Platform”). By using the Platform, you agree to these Terms.

1) Who Coterie is for

Coterie provides tools for organizations to manage communities, run campaigns, and accept donations or payments through integrated payment partners. Individuals may use the Platform to join communities, support campaigns, and participate in activities.

2) Accounts and eligibility

  1. You must provide accurate information and keep your account details up to date.
  2. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your login credentials.
  3. You must not use the Platform for unlawful, harmful, or abusive activity.

3) Platform role and payment processing

Coterie is a software platform and does not act as a bank, money services business, or trustee for user funds.

Payments are processed by third-party payment providers (for example, Stripe). When you donate or pay through Coterie, you may also be subject to the payment provider’s terms.

Coterie does not control payment provider decisions, including chargebacks, refunds, identity verification, payout timing, or account holds.

4) Donations, refunds, and disputes

  1. Donations are typically final unless the organization provides a refund policy or a legal requirement applies.
  2. Disputes, chargebacks, or refund requests may be handled by the payment provider and/or the organization receiving the funds.
  3. Coterie may assist with record access, but organizations are responsible for their campaign policies and communications.

5) Tax receipts

If a tax receipt is applicable, the organization (not Coterie) is responsible for issuing the official donation receipt and ensuring compliance with Canada Revenue Agency requirements. Coterie may store and display receipts provided by organizations.

6) User content and community conduct

You may be able to post content, upload materials, or participate in communities (“User Content”). You are responsible for your User Content and must not upload or share content that is illegal, misleading, infringing, or harmful.

Coterie may remove content or restrict accounts that violate these Terms or create risk for users or the Platform.

7) Intellectual property

Coterie and its licensors own the Platform and all related intellectual property, excluding User Content. You may not copy, reverse engineer, or misuse the Platform.

8) Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  1. attempt unauthorized access to accounts or systems
  2. interfere with Platform performance or security
  3. use the Platform to spam, harass, or impersonate others
  4. upload malware or harmful code
  5. use the Platform in ways that violate applicable laws

9) Suspension and termination

We may suspend or terminate access if we reasonably believe you violated these Terms, created risk, or required action for safety or compliance. You may stop using the Platform at any time.

10) Disclaimers

The Platform is provided “as is” and “as available.” Coterie does not guarantee uninterrupted service, error-free operation, or outcomes from campaigns, fundraising, or community participation.

11) Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Coterie will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or loss of profits, revenue, data, or goodwill.
